Mike Johnston and Al MacAdam were back as coaches of UNB and STU and this season featured the Battle of the Hill at its best. Johnston had to replace goalie Chris Somers and some good scoring in Gord Christianm, Jamie Colvin and Forbes MacPherson.

Newcomers for the Varsity Reds were goalie Mark Dawkins, Defensemen Rod Norquay and Chris Nadeau, along with top notch forwards Derek Cormier, Chris Peach and Jason Underhill. Ken Murchison broke his arm in the seasons second game and plaued only five games, while Mike O'Donnell quit UNB for Rhode Island Junior College where he could concentrate on his budding baseball career.

UNB (16-9-1) finshed first in the MacAdam Division, but STU (14-11-1) was not far behind and the two teams split their season series 2-2 with both cleaning up at home. Derek Cormier was the prize catch, as he was eigth in league scoring (29-17) and was selected as Rookie-of-the-Year in the AUAA.

Todd Sparks had a breakout season for the (Varsity) Reds, finishing 7th in points (14-33) and had a six point game against St. Mary's (November 20th). Trevor Boland (18-14), defeneseman Kelly Reed (1-27) and Chris Peach (15-12) all had fine seasons. Greg Reid (goals against average 2.74) and Mark Dawkins (3.76) atarred, as UNB finished with the second fewest goals allowed. At All-Star time, only Reed was selected to the MacAdam squad.

In the playoffs UNB swept UPEI (3-1, 6-0) and PEI native Ken Murchison showed he was healthy again with two goals in the second win; University of Moncton threw a scare into the (Varsity) Reds with an opening 5-4 win at home, but UNB came back to sweep them 4-3 (overtime) and 8-4 at home. Toby Burkitt had the all important overtime winner in the 4-3 win, while Trevor Boland counted a hat-trick in the clincher.

That set up another matchup with Tom Coolen and his Acadia Axemen (19-4-3). The 1st game in Fredericton saw the visitors prevail 5-3 and the secodn game was a 7-3 loss to end another good season. Todd Sparks (2-8) led all playoffs scorers in assists, while Derek Cormier (8-2) led in goals. Defenseman Mike Cavanaugh (1-7), Ken Murchison (4-3) and Chris Peach (3-4) also scored well.
