University of New Brunswick had Mike Johnston back as coach and there was little turnover, with the main losses being Scott MacDonald, defenseman Costa Papista and leading scorer Tom Gemmell. Recruiting went well, as Trevor Boland, Mike Cavanaugh, Rob Knesaurek, Forbes MacPherson and goalie Greg Reid were strong additions.

UNB swept the season series from St. Thomas (4-0) and finsihed first in the MacAdam Division (18-7-1). They didn't have any of the leading scorers, but goalie Chris Somers (3.44) in goals against and was named a 1st All-Star. Scoring was balanced, as Ken Murchison (19-19), Jamie Colvin (15-23), rookie Trevor Boland 21-15) and defensman Mike Cavanaugh (8-23) led the way. At the first Mark Jeffrey Memorial game UNB beat St. Thomas 8-4 and they retired Jeffrey's #17.

In the playoffs, UNB beat University of Moncton 4-2 and 3-2 to move into the Division final against second place UPEI. The first game was a heart-breaking loss as the Island team won 6-5 in the third overtime, despite two goals by Ken Murchison. The dagger came in the next game, when UPEI came into the Aitken Centre and won 4-2 to finish the season for the locals. Murry Nystrom won the first Mark Jeffrey Scholarship for leadership and dedication.

Chris Somers had a solid 3.09 goals against average in the playoffs and was selected as the AUAA Godfrey Trophy winner for combining athletics and academics equally well. Acadia, with former UNB Coach Tom Coolen beat UPEI to take the title and then split games in Toronto to take home a Silver Medal at the Nationals.
