UNB now had Jim Morell as coach with Allie MacIntyre as his assistant. They had to replace some goodplayers in Don MacIntyre, Dave Wisener, Ian Lutes, Steve Fraser and Ron Loughery, but brought in some strong prospects in Bob Hay, Don MacAdam and Danny Gill, while Bob Keeffe and Phil Lepage moved up from the Junior Varsity squad. The Red Devils lost their first three games and stumbled to a 2-9 record, with only a 6-5 victory over STU to crow about ( Phil Lepage got 3 goals in that win). Another (8-4) over STU and a 7-1 triumph over Memorial in St. John's was all they had to cheer about the rest of the way and they finished 4-14. UNB ranked in the middle of the pack in goals against with Keith Lelievre in goal, but had trouble scoring with the big boys. They had none of the leading scorers but were led by Bob Keeffe (10-12 in only 14 games) and Phil Lepage (8-12). Perry Kennedy had a four goal game against Mt.A., while Karl Parks and Phil Lepage, had hat-tricks. Ernie Fitsimmons, The History of Hockey in Fredericton: Volume 3
