University of New Brunswick Coach Bill MacGillivary had only Ian Lutes, Lon Mullin, Don MacIntyre, Geoff Sedgewick, Ron Loughery and John Sheppard back from their playoff team. Key newcomers were goalie Keith Lelievre, Dave Wisener, Perry Kennedy and Karl Parks, while local players like Bob Bobbett and John Yauss of Oromocto made the team, along with Pete Ross of St. Andrews. UNB got off to a staggering start, losing almost as many as they won and then suffered a 5-1 loss to STU. It looked like they were out of the playoff hunt after being held to 3-3 and 4-4 ties by STU and St. Dunstan's in mid-February, but three straight wins, including two in St. John's over Memorial University almost got them into the playoffs. Keith Lelievre had a solid 10-4-3 record and a 3.36 average, while the top scorers were Ian Lutes (15-13-28), Karl Parks (11-10), Dave Wisener (8-13) and defenseman Don MacIntyre (5-16), while Ron Loughery was second in the league in penalty minutes with 62.
