UNB were hoping to improve on their fourth place finish of the 1965-66 and lost only Al Furlong, Carmen Hudson, Ted Loughery, Al Jeffrey and Boyd Legallis. They continued to encourge NB players by adding Ron Loughery, Tom Pile (Oromocoto), Bob Murray and Lawrence Jewwett but also brought in Bob Arnott of St. Jean, Quebec. Along with Mark Jacobson, Jim Morell and Gary Jones, the Red Devils had six players from Fredericton. Early losses to St. F.X, Mt. A and St. Dunstan's made it obvious that this would be a rebuilding year. They finished 5-8-1, ahead of only St. Thomas, Dalhousie and University of Moncton (1-11-1). Mary Winslow shone above all other UNB players, finished second in a points and first in assists with 6-24-30. Herb Madill (11-6) chosen as a Second All-Star rightwinger despite fairly low scoring totals. The St. Stephen had two three goal games, with Austin Duquette getting the other. Duquette was named the UNB Male Athlete of the year (Ken Corbett Shield), while team captain Jim Morell was the MVP of the hockey team. The Red Devils did play in the RPI Christmas Tournament again, but lost both games. Fredericton native Richard Scammell had 3 goals in the 5-2 loss to RPI. They also dropped a pair of games to Boston University (9-2 and 10-1) and went 0-2 at a tournmanet in Moncton, so it was a forgettable season in most ways.
