Rick Nickelchok was back at the helm with UNB and brought Mark Jeffrey in as his assistant. The Red Devils had to replace several players from their underperforming team of 87-88 and appeared to make somestrong additions in goalie Chris Sommers and Costa Papista from London Knights, John Coppa from St. Mikes, Dominic Deluca and top local players like Kevin Jones, Brian Wilson and Derek Comeau. The wheels fell off right away, as the Devils got off to an 0-6 start that included a 7-2 loss to STU and they kept floundering along until they had a 1-9 record by late November. The players pulled a mini-boycott against Rick Nickelchok and Mark Jeffrey was moved up to Head Coach to see if he could salvage something from the season. UNB managed to go 4-8-1 the rest of thew way, but still ended up in last place (5-20-1) in the MacAdam Division and out of the playoffs. Like STU, UNB didn't have any league All-Stars, but did get some scoring from Dominic Deluca (8-15), Renato Marino (7-14), top goal scorer Mark Sokalski (16-4) and defenseman Jamie Lehman (3-16). (note: Rick was replaced and had no coaching responsibilities - the coaching transition occured over the December exam period and Mark started the second half as the interim Head Coach).
