Mike Kelly parlayed his National title with UNB into a GM/Coach position with North Bay (OHL) and he was replaced by Tom Coolen, Only a few players were gone, including Jason Campeau, Scott Cherry (to Guelph), Bill Lang and Ryan Lindsay.

New Varsity Reds players were Joe Bouvier, Rob Hegberg, Jason MacMillan, Darryl MacArthur, Steve Zoryk and backup goalie Elliott Faust. Despite the steady roster, UNB fell back to second place (13-12-1) behind St. Thomas (14-9-3). Surprisingly, the two local teams split six games 3-3.

Dax MacLean was the only UNB player to crack the top ten with 17-18 (8th). He also broke Toby Burkitt's all-time UNB points record (157) by one with 77-81-158 and was named UNB Male-Athlete-of-the-Year. Jeff Andrews (6-22), Peter MacKeller (12-13) and Ryan Burgoyne (9-16) also scored well. Ken Carroll (3.21) was solid as well, but was unable to play much because of injuries until January.

In the playoffs, UNB went into Moncton and Beat UDM 6-2 with three goals from Rob Hegberg and two by Brian Stewart; The Blue Eagles got back into the series by taking a 5-4 overtime win at the Aitken Centre; and completed the comeback by topping the (Varsity) Reds 4-3 right in their own back yard. Hegberg (5-1) was the big scorer, followed by Brian Stewart (2-2) and Steve Zoryk (1-3) as the big guns were surprisingly quite.

Ernie Fitsimmons, The History of Hockey in Fredericton: Volume 4 (pg. 370)

(correction: The series vs Moncton was H-V-H with UNB having home-ice for games #1 and #3. UNB won game one 6-2, lost on the road 4-2 and then lost game three, 5-4 in double overtime - this marked the first win by Moncton at the AUC in 24 games going back to Jan. '90 (9 seasons) / Darryl MacArthur did not play for UNB this season, he remained with Guelph (OHL) and came to UNB the following season.).
