University of New Brunswick changed gears, as they hired former player Mike Kelly as their Head Coach, while Danny Grant and Brad Shepard stayed on as Assistants. The Varsity Reds again finished first adn the season was a lot of fun as they split four games with STU, which finished second.

The (Varsity) Reds had lost good players in Trevor Boland, Chris Peach, Kayle Short and Chris Nadeau and the three local boys (Chris Ellis, Jeff Grant and Larry McMorran) didn't come back. Strong new players in goalie Ken Carroll, Jason Campeau, Peter MacKellar, Ryan Naismith, Darryl Rivers and Chris Minard were added and after Christmas Dan Sherstenka returned, plus Bill Lang and Scott Cherrey were added.

UNB (19-8-1) led the league without any of the top ten scorers, but rookie goalie Ken Carroll topped the league with 2.41 goals against average, while Bill Wright (21-21), Dax MacLean (17-21), Toby Burkitt (10-21), Jeff Andrews (12-18) and defenseman Chris Zanutto (4-23) led the attack. Burkett became the all-time leading point scorer in UNB history in February. Carroll and Bill Wright were MacAdam All-Stars and Carroll was also Rookie of the Year.

In the playoffs UNB romped over University of Moncton (7-1, 7-1) to set up a second round showdown with STU. Despite three goals by Matt Hogan of the Tommies, UNB won 8-5 with a pair of goals by each of Jeff Andrews, Dax MacLean and Toby Burkitt. Game two was a little tougher, as the two teams battled through three overtime periods before Peter MacKellar got the winner for UNB in a 4-3 triumph.

The (Varsity) Reds now faced Acadia and in game one it took four minutes of overtime before Jason Campeau got his second goal of the game for a 5-4 win. The same score was the margin of vistory in game two as UNB won its first AUAA title in 13 years.

Frankie Leblanc (2.38) was the top playoff goalie and UNB had the three top playoff scores in Jeff Andrews (7-7), Bill Wright (3-9) and Dax MacLean (7-4). They also got great scoring up and down the lineup in totaling 36 goals in six games.

UNB were now at the Nationals, where things looked great with a 4-3 overtime win against powerhouse Alberta, as Dax MacLean counted the winner. In their second game that could have gone either way, the (Varsity) Reds outshot Guelph 40-22 but fell 4-3 as Guelph All-Star goalie Matt Mullin stood on his head.

(correction: '...victory...', not vistory / note: this was Jason Campbell's rookie season and Jason Campeau's sophmore season).
