UNB coach Don MacAdam had lost only eleven goals from departed players and went out and lured outsiders like John Kinch, Craig Crawford and Ed Bradley to Fredericton, along with Rick Doucette, Bertrand Losier and John Lennon, plus Charlie Bird returned from Junior. The Devils had goalies Gary Bernard and Ken MacLean back and figured to improve. UNB went 1-1-1 against the Chevies and St. Thomas in exhibition games and showed some offensive punch. They started well, splitting their first two home games and the win surprised St. F.X. 7-5. After the openerit was mostley downhill, as the team really picked up its goal scoring, but finished last in goals against and last in the standings (3-16-1). They did manage to get George Wood (19-19) into the top ten scorers (5th) and Phil Handrahan (11-16), Brian Craig (12-12), defenseman Dave Neill (2-14 in 18 games) and Ed Pinder (6-8 in 15 outings) all contributed. Neill led again with 77 penalty minutes ahead of Rod Pike (49). Ernie Fitsimmons, The History of Hockey in Fredericton: Volume 3
