Pete Kelly had his University of New Brunswick team play several exhibitions to ready them for the Intercollegiate season. Key losses were Dave Inch, Hedley Savoy, John Sears and Al Jones, but excellent replacements were found in goalie Ned Reade, Ron "Bomber" Andrea, Bill McGillvary, Richard Clark, George Oke, Gord Tweedie and George Cloutier In the Western fianl the Red Devils swept the Tommies in straight games (5-1/6-4) to earn another shot at St. F.X. UNB lost the first game in Antigonish 6-2, with Henri Girard scoring both goals. The game was thrown out because St. F.X. had used an ineligible player, Leo Doyle who had played exhibition games with Sydney during the Christmas holidays, which was contrary to league rules. With a winner take all game back in Fredericton, Ron Andrea scored both goals in a 2-0 win, to become Maritime Champions. It was the first time in thirteen years that St. F.X. had been unseated as Champions. In the 14 Intercollegiate and exhibition games Ron Andrea (19-9-28) was the big gunner, while Henri Girard (12-17-29) led in points. Other top performers were Tom Jarrett (7-9-16), Ed McLellan (3-13-16) and George Oke (4-9-13). Ed McLellan won the Corbet Medal as the top All-Round UNB Athlete.
